The ISTHMUS soundtrack emerged from the dhikr (remembrance litany) given to us by our teacher. Vocalising dhikr
reconnects us to the breath, the origin of life, and to the voice and its ancient and quintessentially human art forms.
In Whispered Dhikr, the Divine Names are repeated to evoke the sound of natural systems: the lapping of the sea against the shore, the soft falling of rain, and storm softening to the distant roar of wind.
Harmonic Dhikr is sung to an original melody composed by Medina Tenour Whiteman, with harmonies sung by sound healer Kim Chandler.
You Picked For Me White Roses is an original poem written by Medina Tenour Whiteman and set to a traditional Algerian tune, with harmonium by Zeger Vandenbussche.
Heartbeat Dhikr features frame drum by Abdelkarim Cederberg and M. Whiteman, vocals by M. Whiteman, and ney flute improvisation by Zeger Vandenbussche.
All tracks except Whispered Dhikr are in F# – the vibration of the heart, and also of the colour green.
